Five More US-Led Troops Killed In Northern Afghanistan

The latest death brings to 446 the number of US-led troops killed so far this year in addition to nearly 4500 US troops killed since the beginning of the war in Afghanistan.

August 22, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - On Friday, Taliban militias killed five more US-led coalition troops in Afghanistan amidst increase in attacks since the beginning of this year.

The latest deaths occurred in northern province of Uruzgan now almost in control of Taliban despite an announced surge in the number of US troops by 50,000 in 2010 as announced by US President Barack Obama. The latest death brings to 446 the number of US-led troops killed so far this year.

Last year, Obama expressed working confidence for his surge plan despite warnings from military analysts as to its futility. Real figures for US casualties are estimated at 4500 while official figure give an imprecise figure of casualties at around 2000 troops.

Taliban militias have been able to inflict deadly raids on US and coalition troops since it became evident that US is seeking a long-term stay in Afghanistan.

Ongoing battles in mountainous regions of Afghanistan turn quite deadly for US-led troops unfamiliar with the terrains..
