Kazrai Underscores Ineffectiveness of US-led War on Terror

The lack of progress in the war on terror has two factors; one the terror havens have not been addressed and second because civilians were killed during this war: Hamid Karzai

August 27, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai criticized ineffectiveness of the US-led military drive to combat terrorism into his war-stricken nation during the past nine years.

Karzai said US and coalition forces have not made any progress and it seems unlikely there would be a victory with current strategy of civilian killings using drone attacks. The Afghan President was referring to widely used drone attacks on villages that kill civilians instead of armed combatants. While Taliban militias strictly inflict direct military casualties on armed troops, US-led forces mostly attack women, elderly and kids who live in remote villages.

‘The lack of progress in the war on terror has two factors; one the terror havens have not been addressed and second because civilians were killed during this war,’ Karzai said on Thursday.

In their latest attack on Afghan civilians, a US-led drone strike on Wednesday killed six children and dozens wounded in eastern Kunar Province.

Last week, Hamid Karzai issued an exit deadline for private security forces supposedly fighting alongside US-led troops inside Afghanistan. He called those security firms the main source of corruption, crime and illicit drug activities in Afghanistan. The US however dismissed Karzai comments on private security personnel and said there’s no need to rush into conclusion on this matter. Washington says it wants a gradual withdrawal of private security personnel out of Afghanistan.
