IAEA Report Influenced by Outside Pressure

The report contained a plethora of details about the technical aspects of Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, which is a breach of the confidentiality of sensitive information about the nuclear activities of member states: Iran's Ambassador to the IAEA.

Tehran, 14, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran’s permanent representative to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh submitted a letter in response to what was reported as a regret by IAEA Director General over Iran’s decision to exclude two inspectors from visiting various nuclear sites.

Yesterday, the IAEA chief said he regretted Iran’s decision to not allow two inspectors from visiting the sites. Iranian nuclear officials, according to IAEA safeguards, had rejected two of the IAEA inspectors due to their biased reporting procedures that have caused some misunderstandings in the past.

Soltanieh said in the letter, as published by Fars News Agency, ‘it appears that the report was influenced by outside pressure, since it contained a plethora of details about the technical aspects of Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, which is a breach of the confidentiality of sensitive information about the nuclear activities of member states.’

According to Soltanieh the IAEA report contained demands that exceeded provisions of the NPT.  It further complicated matters by duplicating parts of an anti-Iran UNSC resolution 1929 and certainly not the appropriate manner for the IAEA to play political games the rules of which have been set by a limited number of countries.

Iran’s Ambassador to the IAEA further refers to Iran’s nuclear program as a peaceful activity that complies fully with the NPT safeguards. He also rejected a recent media report on the existence of a secret nuclear plant, saying that the alleged reports containing documents were simply forgeries since there are no such devices or materials mentioned as they have ever been found.

In the past there have been numerous instances of similar whistle-blowing reports that sought to exaggerate and prove the existence of a clandestine nuclear program in Iran to no avail. As it has been proven over time, Iran’s nuclear program is fully transparent and it is geared toward peaceful use of nuclear technology and scientific development.
