Iran Begins a New Phase in Uranium Exploration

We have divided the country into several regions and in each one we are doing some research. But most of our exploration activities are being conducted in the central and southern parts of the country: AEOI Director.

Tehran, October 19, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran’s nuclear chief announced beginning of a massive operation to explore for uranium located in central and southern parts of the country, areas presumed to hold large quantities of the said element.

Ali Akbar Salehi, Director of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), told reporters the country seeks to fulfill its long-term commitments in uranium mining and reach self-sufficiency in that field. ‘We have divided the country into several regions and in each one we are doing some research. But most of our exploration activities are being conducted in the central and southern parts of the country,’ MNA quoted Salehi as saying.

Geologists envisage sufficiently large quantities of uranium ore to be present in central and southern parts of the country near the existing mines at Saghand in Yazd and Bandar Abbass regions. Iran currently possesses all necessary know-hows in uranium mining and production of yellow cake, the main substance used in enrichment process.

Last month the country began installing uranium fuel rods inside the core of Bushehr nuclear reactor.

Iran’s nuclear progress has been a major cause of bamboozlement in Washington-Israeli circle for past several years. The United States and its smaller ally Israel have opportunistically been busy making-up false allegations against Iran's peaceful nuclear program. They claim that the oil-rich Middle Eastern nation’s scientific progress poses a grave threat to their existing global financial interests.
