Lula in a Meeting With Angela Merkel Supported Iran's N. Program
Tehran, Dec. 05, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Brazilian President Lula da Silva told Western powers to tone down their rhetoric against Iranian peaceful nuclear program.
In a meeting with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday, Lula emphasized the best way and the cheapest way of achieving success in regard to Iranian nuclear program was to treat the issue with patience.
He also said the only way to resolve the issue was through cooperation and mutual understanding of each parties concerns. He said, ‘In my opinion, it’s not appropriate to treat Iran as if it were an insignificant country and put pressure on Iran every day and I don’t think that will lead to good results.’
The German government headed by Angela Merkel as of late has been quite busy representing a unified front alongside the U.K., French and United States governments against Iranian nuclear program.
Hopefully, President Lula’s recommendations would help others view Iran’s nuclear program as a matter of fact and stop their antagonism against Tehran from now on.
Western style bullying attitudes, however, do not just concern Iran. They have used the same type of double standards against almost all other countries including Brazil for a long time. They opposed Brazil’s nuclear program from start fearing the Latin American giant would divert its program for building nuclear weapons.
Iran has promised to continue forward with its peaceful nuclear program and has indicated that despite Western pressures it would not give up its rights under the non-proliferation treaty.
