US Officials Set A New Date As The Deadline For Iran To Comply
Tehran, Dec. 12, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Obama administration is slowly moving toward confrontation with Iran. US officials are increasingly busy expressing dire warnings to Tehran that they will push for crippling sanctions against Iran if the latter refuses to accept their demands. US officials are now speaking of the end of January as the last chance for Tehran to verifiably abandon its civilian nuclear program.
The Obama administration is using same types of media campaigns prior to the start of Iraq war. They seem to believe that since both of these countries have oil and are close neighbors therefore they can play similar tactics. But, it’s no secret that Iran isn’t Iraq. Iran even without a single rifle on its territory to defend itself is a completely different situation altogether.
US Defense Secretary Robert Gates attending a question and answer session with troops in Kirkuk accused Iran of ‘stiffing’ the international community because it refuses to accept a third party enrichment deal and suggested that the best way forward was to increase the pressure with significant additional sanctions. In response to the question about attacking Iran, he said such attacks would only buy some time, maybe two or three years at most.
Also US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was busy yesterday issuing warnings on Iran to Latin Americans over making deals with Tehran. Earlier she said the US administration would give until the end of the month to accept ‘engagement’ or Tehran could face more sanctions.
European Union appears to follow the plan for more economic sanctions on Iran in their announcement at the UNSC meeting held to discuss Iranian nuclear issue.
