US Helping Egypt Build A Steel Wall To Blockade Southern Gaza Strip
Tehran, Dec. 12, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The Obama administration is helping the Israeli government to construct a massive wall between the Gaza strip and Egypt to prevent underground tunnels that many describe as the lifeline for Gaza people.
Ann Wright, a former US Army member who resigned because of her opposition to Iraqi war says in an article ‘US Cutting Gaza Lifeline’ explains how the big wall is being constructed and what purpose it would serve.
According to her the US government in March 2009 under an instigation from Israeli lobbies provided a $32 million grant to the Egyptian government for electronic surveillance and other security devices as well as a huge underground steel wall about 10 km long and 18 meters high, deep inside the desert sand.
‘The steel wall will be made of super-strength steel put together in a jigsaw puzzle fashion. It will be bomb proof and cannot be cut or melted. It will be "impenetrable," and reportedly will take 18 months to construct.’ Wright writes.
The wall is supposed to block all the tunnels between Gaza and Egypt. The Israeli regime is angry since Gazan could deliver needed food and medicine through the tunnels and in this way as long as residents of Gaza are able to receive food and medical supplies it would be impossible to force them into surrender.
