Massive water pipes along the steel wall aim at flooding tunnels
Gaza, Dec. 28, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The construction of a massive wall between Egypt and Gaza is bringing more opposition from around the world. Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah urged the Egyptian government to halt construction of that wall immediately.
‘In addition to the siege, there has been news about [building] a steel wall ... to terminate the thin veins which are giving some life and some hope to Gaza,’ Nasralleh said during the Ashoura ceremony in Beirut. Well-informed sources living in the area also report hidden secrets behind construction of the steel wall.
One of the features of this wall is that in its construction will use a water system for flooding tunnels dug underground drowning anyone who tries to use them. Egyptian workers are working on the structure and ‘Arab contractors’ under foreign management teams are carrying out the work.
Once completed, the wall will be 10 km long and 20 meters high with massive water pipes running all along the system. Israelis, Americans and their allies expect the structure would prevent Gazans from smuggling their basic imports such as food and medicine through the tunnels, effectively strangulating 1.5 million inhabitants of the besieged area.
The Gaza Strip, which has been under siege for over three years, depends on those tunnels for food, milk, fuel and other essential goods smuggled from the Egyptian side. Not only that but the Egyptian side has also benefited economically from those tunnels.
