Russia Against US Missile Shield proposal

December 29, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The Obama administration is going to weight its options against Iranian nuclear program after the new-year, a top US security official told reporters. National Security Council chief of Staff Denis McDonough said next year the US and its allies will make a final decision on Iranian nuclear program and most likely implement harsher sanctions against Tehran.

 

The latest warning came after Russian and Chinese officials rejected Western proposal for further sanctions against Iran saying there is still room for negotiations.

 

Also as it turns out, Russian officials are becoming upset with Americans’ missile defense program. Today Russian Prime Minister Vladmir Putin told Americans that proposed missile defense shield would prevent the two nations from reaching a comprehensive agreement on nuclear weapons reductions.

 

 ‘The problem is that our American partners are building a missile shield and we are not building one,’ said Putin and added, ‘There is a danger that our partners, by creating such ‘an umbrella,' will feel completely secure and thus can allow themselves to do what they want, disrupting the balance, and aggressiveness will rise immediately.’ Putin warned that the idea of defense shield could seriously damage the two countries relationship.
