US Drone Attacks Killed Over 700 Pakistani Civilians in 2009

For Every Al Qaeda Member Over 140 Civilians Were Killed in Pakistan Last Year by US Drone Attacks

Jan. 03, 10 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Last year the US army carried out 44 predator drone strikes in various parts of Pakistan, a nuclear armed country of over 160 million people.

Latest data show of all the missiles and bombs landed on suspected sites only five did actually hit their designated targets killing five Al Qaeda members. On the other hand the rest of those drone attacks killed over 700 ordinary people.

Pakistani authorities say their data reveal American predator strikes  originating from north of the border in Afghanistan killed exactly 708 people in the tribal areas from January 1st to December 31, 2009.  They say for every Al Qaeda member who was killed, 140 innocent civilians were killed too.

The US carries out predator drone attacks based on information given to it by CIA agents, local informants and other sources inside Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The US army and NATO attacked Afghanistan in 2001 in a hunt for Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, who supposedly was the mastermind behind the September 11 events in New York. But after several years of futile bombings over Hindu Kush Mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the elusive Al Qaeda leader and its members continue operations around the world.

One of the latest Al Qaeda attack seem to have occurred on the Christmas day when a young Nigerian man carried explosives in his underwear on a US bound flight. Bin Laden himself issues sporadic video and audio messages in which he vows to keep on strikes on US’ interests around the world.
