Saudi Jets Pound Northern Yemen Villages

16 Villagers Killed By Saudi Air Strikes inside Yemen

January, 04, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Saudi jet fighters dropped more bombs on Houthi villages in the Yemen-Saudi border area killing over 16 civilians, the Houthi website reported.

The report said 16 people killed in two days of Saudi strikes on two homes and wounded 13 other in a market inside Yemeni side of the border. Last week Washington and London voiced their support for Yemeni government’s heavy handed policy against the Houthis and promised to provide military as well as financial backing for the war against Al Qaeda members supposedly active in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia entered Yemeni civil war last month under the pretext of defending its border regions from Shiite fighters known as Houthis. The Houthis have been at war with the central government in Sanaa the Yemeni Capital, since the 70’s. They say the Yemeni government systematically marginalizes its people and they are fighting for their civil rights.

Yemeni army launched a military offensive codenamed Scorched Earth Offensive against the Houthis on August 11, 2004 in northern Yemen.  United States, UK, France and Japan have closed down their embassies in Yemen over fears of more attacks by the Al Qaeda.
