Ahmadinejad Slammed Saudi's Military Offensive Against Yemen

Houthis Said Saudi Air Strikes Killed More Than 13 People in Northern Yemen

Jan.15, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad condemned the Saudi Kingdom for its military involvement against the people of Yemen particularly the Houthis living in Northern parts of Yemen close to Saudi borders, during a visit to Khuzestan province this week.

’Saudi Arabia was expected to mediate in Yemen's internal conflict as an older brother and restore peace to the Muslim states, rather than launching military strikes and pounding bombs on Muslim civilians in the north of Yemen,’ Ahmadinejad addressed the gathering of people in Ahvaz as reported by Press TV.

The President also slammed the Kingdom for failure to defend the rights of Muslim Palestinians in Gaza in the course of 22 –day offensive by the Israeli regime. This historic failure by Saudi Arabia stands in contrast to its claim of being the ultimate guardian and defender of Muslims’ rights across the world.

In response, The Saudi foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal denied his country’s military involvement against Houthi fighters from Yemen. ‘I don't know where he (Ahmadinejad) got this accusation ... that the kingdom is waging war on the Houthis, the real accusation is that Iran is the one that meddles in Yemen's internal affairs.’ al-Faisal said to reporters in Riyadh.

According to al-Faisal even the Houthis themselves deny Saudi involvement in any types of military attacks against their people. But, yesterday the Houthis reported that Saudi Arabian warplanes bombed civilians in northern Yemen in which at least 13 people were killed. In addition they claim Saudi jets carried out 12 attacks within the last two days.

Haouthis have already informed international agencies about Saudi Arabia's use of banned weapons including phosphorous bombs similar to what the Israeli regime used during the 22-day offensive on Gaza civilians.
