Parliament Considering Severance of Ties With Britain

The Bill Binds the Government to Severe All Ties With London

Tehran, January 25, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, has drafted the bill of law demanding the government to severe relations with Britain.

The bill is undergoing intense discussions by the members of the parliament today. Once approved, the bill would enable the Foreign Ministry to cut all diplomatic ties with Britain in reaction to the latter’s frequent interference in Iranian internal affairs.

According to reports from Iran, the British Embassy staffs were involved in clandestine activities during Iran’s post- elections events. London openly defended its interferences in the name of human rights and freedom of expression. Tehran later expelled two British diplomats and an Embassy’s local staff by the name of Hossein Rassam was charged with clandestine activities including managing a £300,000 budget from London to stir-up unrest, Fars News Agency reported. The same source said Rassam confessed to his role at the Embassy and attended protests on the streets alongside other British diplomats.

Britain’s interference in the region has a long history and could be traced back to the18th century when then- British Empire was the dominant global superpower of the time.
