US Missile Shield Deployment in The Persian Gulf a Mere 'Puppet Show'

Oman Turns Down US Offer of Security Assistance.

Tehran, February 03, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The United States' plan to boost military cooperation by deploying an advanced missile shield on four Persian Gulf states south from the Iranian border was a ‘Puppet show,’ Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larjani said yesterday.

The Speaker’s comments followed US announcing plans to deploy anti-missile Patriot systems in the oil rich Arab Sheikhdoms of Qatar, UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait in the Persian Gulf supposedly to shoot down incoming Iranian missiles at high value targets such as oil refineries, tankers and ports. Reportedly, the Omani government refused the US offer of missile deployment.

'This is a puppet show and the US claim of creating security for the region just another political swindle, the US should understand that the main security problem in the region is the US itself and the more warfare they bring to the region, the more tension they cause,' IRNA quoted Larijani as saying.

Historically speaking, Iran has not threatened any of its neighbors for centuries and according to the Majlis Speaker the US move is designed to justify presence in the region. 'The regional countries should know that this US move is a political swindle aimed at justifying its presence in the region at regional cost,’ Larijani said.
