Beijing Blasts Obama-Dalai Lama Meeting

Chinese officials warned Washington to stop supporting anti-China separatist forces.

February 19, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - China issued a stern warning to the United States for violating the international norms by holding a political meeting between Barrack Obama and the Tibetan monk Dalai Lama in Washington, yesterday. China’s state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

The report said China has made repeated calls on Obama against the meeting, which could strain elations between the countries, but despite the calls, Obama met with Dalai Lama. ‘The U.S. act grossly violated the norms governing the international relations, and ran counter to the principles set forth in the three China-U.S. joint communiqué and the China-U.S. joint statement,’ Xinhua quoted Ma Zhaoxu, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, as saying.

Dalai Lama is staunch supporter of America and the American way of life. He receives regular backings from Washington from time to time. Dalai Lama heads a separatist group from Tibet that seek independence from the mainland. Chinese officials warned Washington to stop supporting anti-China separatist forces. US deny it’s supporting separatist movements but regards Dalai Lama as a respected spiritual leader of Tibet who wants more freedom for his people.

The US however declaring its good overall objectives regarding Beijing, is clearly hiding the real intentions behind forging of ties with either Dalai Lama or Taiwan. The latter known throughout history as an integral part of China and also recognized as such by Washington recently signed a $6.5 billion military contract with the US aimed at countering China.

Western members of the NATO alliance are upset at China’s (and to some extend India’s) rapid economic growth, which if continues the way it’s going now could simply toss both the US and Europe out of the realm of manufacturing in the future. Not surprisingly, the Washington think tanks are now seriously evaluating the threats posed by India and China in the long-term and for this reason embarked upon a multi-front political offensive against the two.
