Ecuador Dismissed Involvements in Money Laundering Activities

This is imperialism in its most base form: Ecuador President Rafael Correa.

February 21, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - A so-called Action Task Force, or FATF, which is based in Paris, has included names of several countries in a black list of those involved in international money laundering.

Among those countries are the names of Ecuador and Iran supposedly involved in some forms of hypothetical money laundering activities. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa blasted the move by the Paris-based think-tank. He said, ‘What arrogance! And why? Because we have relations with Iran, that's it? This is imperialism in its most base form. ... This has nothing to do with the struggle against money laundering.’

Ironically the FARF, comprising of local governments and organizations tends to target developing countries that have smaller economies. The think-tank ignores casino capitalism practices rampant at major industrial countries’ stock markets all around the world. US officials have openly confessed their involvements in massive amounts of money launderings and tax evasions in recent years.

Most European countries including the right-wing governments in France, Germany and UK amongst others openly shifted billions of euros in money launderings. They embarked upon their own version of  neo-con style financial deregulation scheme before the global recession of 2008 hit the financial industries.

‘We have been blacklisted along with Iran, Ethiopia, Angola and North Korea. We are the financiers of terrorism in the world!’ Reuters reported Correa as saying. The progressive Ecuadorian President continued, ‘It's a stick so you don't misbehave, naughty boy. You didn't do what I said - don't get involved with Iran. So because you went ahead, we'll put you on the blacklist, that's all.’

The Ecuadorian government has been

under pressure from US and European governments because of close ties with oil rich countries such as Venezuela and Iran
