Iran To Boost Security Procedures At Airports

Eye-Scanning and Finger Printing Reduce The Risk of Terrorist Activities: Official.

Tehran, March 04, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian officials urge the government to start using eye-scanning and fingerprinting procedures for foreign national entering Iran.

The measures aim at preventing possible terrorist attacks against the country. A group of legislators say the action is necessary at this time when there are possible threats facing the country.  ‘There need to be some planning to prevent activity of (foreign) intelligence agencies in our country and use of finger-printing and scanning of the eye cornea are among the measures which could be adopted to this end,’ FNA quoted a foreign policy specialist Zohreh Elahian as saying.

Airport securities at some Persian Gulf countries now use fingerprinting and eye-scanning as their normal procedures. In UAE, which has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities in recent months almost all foreign nationals undergo stringent security checks. Dubai Airport security is now fingerprinting Iranian national. In response Iran is also going to boost security measures at the airports.

Last month a large group terrorists carrying fake European and Australian passports conducted a terrorist activity in Dubai. The team, according to Dubai police was a Mosad assassination squad meant to kill a Palestinian Hamas member inside a luxury hotel. The UAE government strongly condemned the action and said it will issue an arrest warrant for those who ordered the killing.

Eye-scanning could become a normal procedure at airports across the world.
