Iran Unveils New Anti-Warship Missile

NASR-1 Capable of Sinking 3000-Tons warships.

Tehran, March 07, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Today Iran unveiled its latest cruise missile dubbed NASR-1 (Victory 1), at an opening ceremony held at the Defense Ministry’s aerospace industries plant near Tehran.

The missile is highly accurate and has the capability of evading the most advanced radar systems. During the ceremony Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi told reporters, 'NASR-1 is a short-range shore to sea missile capable of sinking warships that weigh 3000 metric tons.'

The missile could be fired from land as well as on top of warships. Vahidi added, the same missile would soon be equipped with the capability to be fired from submarines and helicopters. Iran enjoys a highly productive defense industry. The country now manufactures long-range missiles, tanks, jet fighters and warships.

Nasr-1 was test-fired in Dec. 2008. It successfully destroyed a target at

30 km distance in the Persian Gulf.
